With significant increase in the trading activities via auctions and exhibitions in recent years, Hong Kong has become an important trading hub of Tahitian pearls.
According to the Tahitian pearls export statistics in 2017, Hong Kong continues to become the largest importer of Tahitian pearls, with a 65 percent share in total export weight and 58% in export value.
Resulting from the increasing demand and sales activities, the export of Tahitian pearls recorded a 40% & 46% increase in total weight and quantity respectively in 2017. The total export value has been risen by 26%. Top quality pearls which are unique in terms of color, shape, size and luster, only represents 1-2 percent of the total production of Tahitian pearls. Price is steady.
